¡°Buddhism and Modern Science¡±

Venerable Jian Hu  Abbot, Chung Tai Zen Center of Sunnyvale

Do you know Einstein pointed to the core of Buddhism in his renowned theory of E=mc2? What is the connection between the scientific discovery of the butterfly effect and the Buddhist teaching of dependent origination? Before physicists unveiled the wave-particle duality and uncertainty principles in quantum mechanics, Buddha was already teaching the delusion of subject-object distinction more than 2,500 years ago. Don¡¯t miss this exciting lecture as Abbot Ven. Jian Hu of Chung Tai Zen Center of Sunnyvale, a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence, will explain some fascinating connections between Buddhist philosophy and modern science.

This event is also 8 years anniversary  celebration for IBC TV Foundation. IBCTVF¡¯s  basic mission is promoting      positive cultural values and Zen and life talk on television. IBC TV Foundation is a non-profit organization, established December 1st  1997 in Washington State. Frances Goldman, who founded IBC TV Foundation, previously managed Seattle Chinese Television media business. During the media work, Frances  learned that Zen and life teaching are very positive messages for everyone. So Frances decided to invite master Jian Hu to give a ¡°Buddhism and Modern Science¡±  lecture on IBC TV¡¯s anniversary celebration. We hope  that  every participant benefits from the Dharma message.

Venerable Jian Hu came to the US from Taiwan as a teenager and went on to graduate from California Institute of Technology and UC, San Diego with a doctorate in Computer Science, specializing in Artificial Intelligence. In pursuit of a more meaningful life, he renounced all worldly attachments and returned to Taiwan to study under Venerable Master Wei Chueh, founding Abbot of Chung Tai Chan Monastery and a living legend in Zen Buddhism. Educated in the forefront of western sciences with a deep appreciation of the Asian culture, Ven. Jian Hu understands well the American culture and especially the high-tech environment in the U.S. He is frequently invited to give lectures or conduct retreats across U.S. and abroad, such as Stanford University and other colleges, high schools, as well as high tech companies and organizations in America and Asia. A tireless teacher, Ven. Jian Hu is admired by his students for his wisdom, practical teachings, effective communication, and a sense of humor.
